Free RTC Travel: CCTV, Body-Worn Cameras for Safety

Women, girls and transgenders can travel free anywhere within the state in these services by showing their Aadhaar, voter ID, or any other government-issued ID.

Nellore: The Nellore district administration and APSRTC are introducing CCTV surveillance and body-worn cameras for conductors as part of safety measures linked to the ‘Stree Shakti’ scheme from Friday, August 15.

Officials said these steps aimed to prevent any incidents and ensure smooth RTC operations.

The state government is launching the free travel scheme on Independence Day, with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurating it in Vijayawada.

In Nellore, urban development minister Ponguru Narayana will launch the programme at 3pm in the main bus station in the presence of district collector Anand and APSRTC zonal chairman Sannapureddy Suresh Reddy.

District public transport officer Shameem said all arrangements have been completed to operate 492 buses across the district’s seven depots, covering Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, and Express services.

The depot-wise allocation includes: Atmakur (61), Kandukur (60), Kavali (90), Nellore-1 (91), Nellore-2 (90), Rapur (49), and Udayagiri (51). Hired buses will also be deployed as needed.

Women, girls and transgenders can travel free anywhere within the state in these services by showing their Aadhaar, voter ID, or any other government-issued ID.

Zero-fare tickets will be issued to them upon showing the applicable concession. “In all depots, local MLAs and public representatives will participate in the inaugural programmes,” Shameem added.
