Four-Bin Waste Segregation System to be Introduced in Vijayawada

The commissioner directed officials to conduct awareness campaigns to promote waste segregation and scientific disposal practices

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will implement a four-colour garbage bin system across the city in line with the Solid Waste Management Rules–2026.

At a review meeting on Wednesday, Municipal Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra said the existing three-bin system would be expanded with the addition of a black bin for hazardous waste.

Under the system, wet waste will be collected in green bins, dry waste in blue bins, and sanitary and biomedical household waste in red bins. The black bins will be used for hazardous and electronic waste, including bulbs, batteries, paint containers and e-waste.

The commissioner directed officials to conduct awareness campaigns to promote waste segregation and scientific disposal practices.

He also reviewed summer preparedness and instructed officials to ensure drinking water supply, maintenance of parks and protection of greenery. He called for continuous monitoring to avoid inconvenience to the public during summer.

Senior officials from various departments attended the meeting.
