Srinivasan, who had also served as in-charge airport director, was found guilty of accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. The court also imposed a fine.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on July 24, 2015, following allegations that the official had demanded a bribe from a complainant to expedite clearance of pending bills and avoid blacklisting the complainant's firm.

Acting on the complaint, CBI officials laid a trap and caught Srinivasan allegedly accepting the first instalment of ₹25,000.

After completing the investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet on February 29, 2016. Following the trial, the court found the accused guilty and awarded the sentence.

Woman dies after husband allegedly attacks her over suspected infidelity

A 22-year-old woman died after she was allegedly attacked by her husband over suspicion of infidelity at Venkatapathi Nagar under Tirupati Rural police station limits on Monday.

According to Tirupati Rural circle inspector K. Maddaiah Chary, the deceased, P. Kasturi, 22, was allegedly assaulted by her husband, P. Suresh, 26, who suspected her fidelity. The accused allegedly attacked her with a dosa pan, leaving her critically injured.

Police shifted Kasturi to Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Government General Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.

The CI said Suresh was addicted to alcohol and had allegedly subjected his wife to physical abuse for some time.

Following the incident, local residents allegedly caught hold of the accused, assaulted him and later handed him over to the police. He was shifted to hospital for treatment.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Tirupati Rural police registered a case. Police said the accused would be taken into custody after his discharge from hospital. Further investigation is underway.

Life imprisonment for man convicted of wife's murder

The IV Additional District Court in Kakinada has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife and imposed a fine of `5,000.

Judge K. Nagamani convicted Milu Swain, 31, after finding him guilty of murdering his wife, Ritanjali.

According to Sarpavaram police, Swain, a native of Odisha, was residing in Kakinada for employment. On July 16, 2024, he allegedly quarrelled with his wife on suspicion of her fidelity and hit her against a wall, resulting in her death.

The case was investigated by then circle inspectors Y.R.K. Srinivas and B. Peddi Raju.

Kakinada superintendent of police G. Bindu Madhav appreciated the investigating officers following the conviction.

Life term for man convicted of murder over ₹6,000 loan

A local court on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a fellow inmate of a shelter home over a ₹6,000 hand loan in Anantapur.

The VII Additional District and Sessions & Family Court convicted Chakali Srinivasulu, 41, a resident of Nyamaddala village in Chennekothapalli mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district, after finding him guilty of murdering Ashok.

According to police, Srinivasulu and Ashok were staying at the Mahatma Gandhi Shelter in Kovvur Nagar, Anantapur. Ashok had borrowed `6,000 from Srinivasulu and had not repaid the amount.

On June 25, 2022, Srinivasulu demanded repayment of the loan. When Ashok told him he was unable to repay, Srinivasulu allegedly attacked him on the head with a wooden pestle, killing him on the spot.

The IV Town police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the shelter manager, Lakshmikanth Naik.

After the prosecution established the charges, VII Additional District and Sessions Judge C.N. Murthy sentenced Srinivasulu to life imprisonment.

Woman attempts suicide, alleges police harassment in Palnadu

A woman allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at Gadelapalem village in Karempudi mandal of Palnadu district on Sunday, with her family accusing the local sub-inspector of harassment.

According to police, Ch. Ayyappa had procured red chillies worth about ₹1.50 crore from nearly 40 farmers as an intermediary, with the understanding that he would sell the produce to buyers and remit the proceeds to the farmers.

When payments were delayed, the farmers approached the police seeking intervention. Police said the sub-inspector summoned Ayyappa and his wife, Lakshmi, to the police station and asked them to settle the dues.

The couple’s family alleged that the sub-inspector harassed them and threatened to implicate them in a false case, following which Lakshmi consumed pesticide in an attempt to end her life.

The couple also alleged that they were facing a threat to their lives from the sub-insister and appealed to the government to order an inquiry and provide justice.

Man held for son’s murder in Banaganapalle

A man allegedly murdered his son at Enakandla village in Banaganapalle mandal on Monday. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The victim was identified as Jammi Madhu, 30, a tractor driver. According to preliminary information, his father, Maddileti, allegedly attacked him following ongoing family disputes.

Police suspect that frequent quarrels within the family and a property dispute may have led to the incident. Madhu is survived by his wife and two children.

Police shifted the body to the Banaganapalle government hospital for post-mortem examination and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
