Floods in Pennar Wash Away Culvert, Bridge; Disrupt Traffic

Heavy rains hit Pennar region; culvert collapse and vehicle mishaps reported in Anantapur, Kadapa

Anantapur: A temporary bridge near Buggavanka on the Tadipathri-Nandyal route got washed away following heavy floods in Pennar River within the Tadipathri mandal of Anantapur district on Sunday.

Vehicular traffic suffered disruption over more than 3 km between Tadipathri and Nandyal. Further a loaded lorry got stuck in a breach along the highway, disrupting traffic. NHAI and local teams rushed to the spot and cleared the road after a few hours.

A jeep got washed away in a channel near Alurkona Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Yadiki mandal. The driver managed to escape by jumping off from the jeep.

A culvert collapsed in between Kadapa and Badvel near the Lankamalq Reserve Forest. This has stopped vehicular flow between Kadapa and Badvel. Roads and Buildings minister Janardhan Reddy directed the R&B teams to lay a temporary road to clear the traffic.

Heavy rains are continuing across all parts of the Rayalaseema region. Administrations of various districts in the region have been put on alert after the India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rains during the next two days.
