“Eight road blocks have been identified in Chintoor mandal affecting the traffic movement,’’ said the project officer. He said relief centres have been identified so that the people can be evacuated in case of flash floods.

Visakhapatnam: The district administration of ASR has put its police, revenue, and disaster management authority personnel on high alert, as several mandals in the district have been affected by floods. Project officer of Paderu, Abhishek Gouda, told this correspondent that floods have occurred in Araku, Chinturu, Sileru, Koyyuru, Mampa, Munchangiput, Devipatnam, Kunavaram, and VR Puram mandals, resulting in damage to roads, culverts, and bridges.

“Eight road blocks have been identified in Chintoor mandal affecting the traffic movement,’’ said the project officer. He said relief centres have been identified so that the people can be evacuated in case of flash floods. Abhishek Gouda stated that tourist spots near water bodies have been shut down, and if a weather warning of heavy rainfall is issued, entry into the district through ghat roads will be closed after 6 pm. He said the situation was likely to improve as the weather office had forecast that the water would recede in another 12 hours. In a separate statement, District Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar advised people in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and move to safer zones in the event of flooding. He further advised people to avoid unnecessary travel as roads are likely to be waterlogged.
