Flood Risk Looms Over 125 Villages In Srikakulam

The first warning level encompasses 32 villages, including Singidi and Kosali in Bhamini, Sirusuvada and Mathala in Kotturu, and Wadavalasa in L.N. Peta. These areas require early preparedness and community awareness to mitigate potential damage.

Visakhapatnam: Various flood discharge reports from Srikakulam district have flagged 125 villages across 11 mandals as being at risk from rising floodwaters. The villages are categorised under three warning levels based on discharge volumes: 40,000 cusecs (first warning), 80,000 cusecs (second warning), and 1,00,000 cusecs and above (third warning).

At the highest alert level, 53 villages face severe danger. These include Batteru, Ponam, Ronanki, and Karajada in Srikakulam mandal, as well as Buravalli, Salihundam, and Kalingapatnam in Gara. Polaki mandal alone lists 14 villages under the third warning, such as Santhalaxmipuram, Gollavalasa, and Talasamudram.

Forty villages fall under the second warning category, indicating moderate risk. These include Somarajupuram and Anguru in Kotturu, Edulavalasa and Ampalam in Polaki, and Ponnampeta in Amadalavalasa. Jalumuru mandal lists 13 villages under this category, including Sreemukhalingam and Atchutapuram.
