A major milestone was achieved at the under-construction Greenfield International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district as the first validation (test) flight successfully landed on Sunday. The aircraft arrived from Delhi carrying Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu, Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu, the ATC Chairman, and other officials.
The airport, being developed with state-of-the-art technology, has reached 96 per cent completion, according to GMR Group, the project developer. The airport is scheduled to be inaugurated on June 26.
Speaking after the test flight landing, Minister Rammohan Naidu said an airport is not merely infrastructure spread across 2,000 acres but a catalyst for regional economic growth. He stated that significant progress had been achieved in North Andhra within just 18 months and expressed confidence that the airport would be inaugurated within the next four to five months.
The minister said the successful landing of the test flight indicated that the project had reached its final stage. He added that the airport would enhance connectivity for people across several districts and reshape the future of North Andhra. He also noted that the Visakhapatnam Economic Region had received allocations in the Union Budget, underscoring the Centre’s commitment to regional development.
