Tirupati: A fire broke out in a stationary train coach at the Tirupati Railway Yard on Monday, causing significant damage but no casualties. The incident occurred after the Hisar-Tirupati Special Express (Train No. 04717), from Hisar, reached Tirupati Railway Station at around 11.50 am, about two and a half hours behind schedule.
After passengers had disembarked, a coach positioned behind the engine caught fire while it was being moved into the stabling yard. The flames quickly spread to the adjacent generator coach of the Rayalaseema Express, which was stationed on a nearby track. The fire brigade team rushed to the spot quickly and managed to douse the fire, but by then, the affected Hisar Express coach was completely gutted, and the Rayalaseema Express generator coach sustained partial damage.
Railway officials confirmed that no injuries were reported and all safety protocols were followed. “The fire broke out in an empty coach while it was being taken to the yard. Alert staff initiated firefighting measures immediately and helped contain the fire,” officials said in a statement.
Railway protection force (RPF) personnel have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Railway authorities also clarified that there was no disruption to the arrival or departure of other trains at Tirupati Railway Station as a result of the incident.
