Visakhapatnam: A minor fire broke out at SVS Chemical Industries in Achutapuram on Saturday, with no loss of life or injuries reported.

Anakapalli district collector Vijaya Krishnan said all safety protocols were followed and the situation was brought under control swiftly.
According to officials, the fire occurred at around 4.25 pm at the SVS Chemical Industries unit located in the Andhra Pradesh Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) D-notified area at Achutapuram in Rambilli mandal. Firefighting operations began immediately, and the blaze was extinguished by 5.30 pm.
The incident occurred during the final stage of production of 4-methyl-2-cyanobiphenyl, a chemical used in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The fire reportedly originated at a centrifuge during the handling of toluene solvent, used as an intermediate in the process.
At the time of the incident, only three key personnel — Lokeswara Rao, Director (Operations), Satyanarayana, Assistant Manager (Production), and Kumar, Chemist — were present at the unit. All employees evacuated safely.
The district collector ordered a detailed inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. The unit has been temporarily shut pending completion of the investigation and safety assessments.
