Farmers Queue Up For Urea In Yemmiganur

Kurnool: With the commencement of the agricultural season, farmers are once again grappling with severe shortages of urea fertiliser. In Kurnool district, Yemmiganur witnessed chaotic scenes as large numbers of farmers rushed to secure urea stocks. While private fertiliser shops are reportedly selling urea bags at inflated prices, the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) in Yemmiganur tried to offer some respite by distributing urea to farmers at the government-fixed price. However, the situation was far from adequate.
Farmers from across the Yemmiganur and Mantralayam constituencies, many of whom had travelled long distances, gathered in large numbers at the PACS outlet. The society had received only two truckloads of urea, which was grossly insufficient to meet the demand. Each farmer was allowed to purchase a maximum of three bags to try and ensure that more people could get at least some fertiliser.
Despite these measures, hundreds of farmers were forced to wait for hours in long queues under the sun, hoping to collect the precious commodity essential for their crops. Many of them eventually returned home empty-handed. With sowing activities picking up pace across many mandals, farmers fear that if the shortage continues, their yields and incomes will suffer significantly.
