Farmers Advised to Cut Paddy Cultivation Amid Changing Climate
Awareness programmes were conducted for two days in Nandyal district to educate farmers on climate-adaptive farming practices

KURNOOL: Agricultural scientists advised farmers to reduce paddy cultivation and shift to climate-resilient crops in view of changing weather patterns and possible water shortages.
Awareness programmes were conducted for two days in Nandyal district to educate farmers on climate-adaptive farming practices.
Experts urged farmers to reduce dependence on water-intensive paddy and opt for pulses and oilseed crops that require less water and are better suited for rainfed and moisture-stress conditions.
Scientists also stressed improving soil fertility through green manuring, using fertilisers based on soil testing and adopting crop rotation practices to maintain productivity and reduce pest and disease incidence.
In view of the possible impact of El Niño, farmers were advised to adopt crops and practices that consume less water.
Several agricultural experts and scientists from regional agricultural research stations participated in the programme.
