Fake Currency, Ganja Racket Busted; Rs 37.5 Lakh Counterfeit Notes, 22.4 kg Ganja Seized

Nellore: The Nellore rural police have busted a gang involved in circulating counterfeit currency and transporting ganja, seizing Rs 37.50 lakh in fake notes and 22.4 kg of ganja from a rented house in Dhanalaxmipuram on Wednesday.
The accused were identified as Sheikh Hasan alias Munna, Karthik Reddy (38) of Allur mandal, Sheikh Riaz alias Iliyaz (25) , Sheikh Mustafa (23) and Bellankonda Anil (23) of Muttukuru mandal.
Police said the gang procured around 25 kg of ganja from Odisha, of which 3 kg had already been sold in small packets. The remaining stock, along with bundles of counterfeit notes, was stored in the rented premises.
On 26 November, prime accused Sheikh Hasan attempted to flee towards Chennai on spotting police but was apprehended after a brief chase. During interrogation, he disclosed the gang’s role in fake currency circulation and ganja distribution.
Based on his information, CI G. Venu and his team raided the house that night and arrested the other accused, recovering the counterfeit notes and ganja.
District SP Dr Ajita Vejendla supervised the operation, with Additional SP Ch. Soujanya and Rural DSP G. Srinivasa Rao monitoring the investigation. Senior officials praised the Nellore Rural Police for their prompt action.
