Experts Assess Quality Of Polavaram ECRF Dam
The tests were conducted to determine the extent of water seepage through the portion of the ECRF dam completed so far and assess the strength and compactness of the soil.
VIJAYAWADA: Experts from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) conducted a series of field tests at Polavaram on Monday to assess the quality and performance of the earth-cum-rock-fill (ECRF) dam of the Polavaram project.
The tests were conducted to determine the extent of water seepage through the portion of the ECRF dam completed so far and assess the strength and compactness of the soil.
The experts examined whether the construction conformed to prescribed quality standards, including the required permeability and specified soil strength. They conducted permeability tests to measure the rate of water flow through the ECRF dam and field tests to assess soil strength.
The team also collected samples from the site and tested them at the laboratory located at the project site.
The CSMRS team comprised Siddarth P. Hedaoo, Srihari T. Nair and Amit Sen.
