Ex-MLA’s Comments on Poll Money Go Viral

Taking a swipe at ruling party leaders claiming credit for unanimous victories, the former MLA demanded that they compensate voters by paying Rs 4,000 per vote, equivalent to the combined amount he claimed they could have received from both parties.

Kadapa: Former Proddatur MLA Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy has stirred a political controversy by claiming that voters lost out on money because Telugu Desam (TD) leaders allegedly prevented Opposition candidates from filing nominations in local body elections.

Sivaprasad Reddy said voters could have received money from both parties if candidates from both sides had been allowed to contest. If each party had offered Rs 2,000 per vote, a family with four voters could have received Rs 16,000, he claimed.

He alleged that voters were angry with TD leaders for preventing Opposition candidates from entering the fray, particularly during the festive season when they expected financial benefits from rival parties.

His remarks have triggered discussion on social media amid continuing political tensions over allegations of obstruction and irregularities during the nomination process for municipal elections in Kadapa district. Rival parties have traded charges over the conduct of the process.
