EV Charging Station at Every 30 km: Naidu

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu together with Union minister of power Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday launched the Urjaveer programme to empower individuals to sell energy-efficient appliances, contributing to energy and environmental conservation along with economic development, at Poranki on the outskirts of Vijayawada in Krishna district.

The Chief Minister regretted that the power sector was pushed to a deep crisis by the previous government. Making it clear that the entire energy department is being cleansed totally, the Chief Minister promised to do justice to consumers not by revising the power charges but by increasing the efficiency of the department.

Stating that green energy, solar and wind power are being encouraged on a large scale, Naidu declared establishing an energy university in the state soon. Expressing confidence that over Rs 10 lakh cr investments will be made in the state in coming five years, he said that foundation has also been laid for programmes to generate 7.5 lakh jobs.

Naidu said that programmes have been taken up to increase revenue by 15 per cent by 2047. Congratulating all Urjaveers on their active participation, Chandrababu said that steps would be taken up to set up one EV charging station at every 30 km to meet the increasing demand.

The Chief Minister concluded his address by making an appeal to the Union minister to pay special attention to the state.

Union minister for energy, housing and urban affairs, Manoharlal Khattar said, “Today, we are incredibly proud to say that India is leading the world in energy efficiency, and much of this progress is thanks to the visionary leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under his guidance, the UJALA programme has revolutionised the way India consumes energy. By making LED lighting affordable and accessible to crores of households, UJALA has not only transformed millions of homes but also ignited a movement of sustainability that spans the entire nation.”

Manoharlal Khattar stated, “Andhra Pradesh, as always, has been a frontrunner in this movement. The state has been instrumental in the success of UJALA and the Street Light National Programme (SLNP). With 1.30 crore LED streetlights installed, Andhra Pradesh is saving ₹6,128 crore every year. It’s a state that understands the power of transformation and is leading the charge for the rest of the country. By adopting LEDs early, under the UJALA programme, Andhra Pradesh has not only benefited millions of households but has also set the stage for a nationwide LED revolution. And that’s the beauty of leadership—when one state takes bold steps, the entire country follows the suit, he added.
