Emergency Protocols Activated As Heavy Rain Looms Over Manyam
Officials were instructed to alert communities living along the Nagavali River if water discharge crosses 60,000 cusecs.

Visakhapatnam: Parvatipuram Manyam district collector A. Shyam Prasad has activated emergency protocols in anticipation of heavy rains forecast for July 24 and 25. In a video conference with revenue officials, he ordered the immediate setup of control rooms at the mandal and division levels. A central control room is already operational at the collectorate.
Officials were instructed to alert communities living along the Nagavali River if water discharge crosses 60,000 cusecs. Emphasising the need to protect lives, livestock, and crops, collector Shyam Prasad called for heightened vigilance in flood-prone areas, regions with damaged infrastructure, and low-lying zones. Tahsildars and Sub-Inspectors have been tasked with monitoring culverts, tanks, and vulnerable buildings, with personnel to be deployed as required.
He urged the relocation of pregnant women to nearby health centres or maternity hostels to avoid last-minute risks. He strongly warned against crossing overflowing water bodies or taking selfies near flood zones.
With hilly regions also at risk, collector Shyam Prasad mandated that all officials remain stationed at headquarters and be accessible to the public throughout the alert period. He instructed key departments—including medical and health, roads and buildings, rural water supply, and sanitation—to remain on high alert. A comprehensive audit of emergency resources has also been ordered to ensure uninterrupted public services.
Joint collector S.S. Shobika, district revenue officer K. Hemalata, and other senior officials joined the coordination meeting.
