Embarkation For Haj Revived From Gannavaram Airport In AP

Providing this information, Muslim United Front (MUF) president Md. Kaleem, however, said those travelling from Gannavaram Airport may have to pay an additional ₹70,000 to ₹80,000 per pilgrim.

VIJAYAWADA: Central government has announced the revival of embarkation point for Haj to Mecca in Saudi Arabia from the Gannavaram Airport. This revival is part of the initiative to allow pilgrims to travel directly to the holy city from their nearest airports. Gannavaram is one of the 17 international airports in India from where Muslims can embark for their Haj.

Providing this information, Muslim United Front (MUF) president Md. Kaleem, however, said those travelling from Gannavaram Airport may have to pay an additional ₹70,000 to ₹80,000 per pilgrim.

Kaleem recalled that the state government had earlier absorbed these additional costs, ensuring that flying from Gannavaram Airport remained an appealing option for Haj pilgrims from AP. He hoped the current state government too will bear the additional costs.

If not, this may dissuade many travellers from opting for Gannavaram. They may instead opt to leave for Haj from the Hyderabad or Bengaluru airport. Under the circumstances, the centre may even reconsider having Gannavaram Airport as an embarkation point, the MUF president warned.

He suggested that the state government may also pursue with central administration to mitigate the cost discrepancies for pilgrims embarking for Haj from Gannavaram Airport.
