NELLORE: A herd of wild elephants moving through villages in Yerravaripalem mandal of Tirupati district has caused concern among farmers after repeatedly entering agricultural fields and damaging crops.
The elephants have reportedly been sighted near Nerabailu village and the Talakona check-post area, with residents saying the herd has been moving through the region for several days.
Farmers alleged that the elephants have been entering cultivated lands during the night, trampling crops and causing damage to agricultural fields. They said the repeated incursions have resulted in financial losses and affected farming activities.
The movement of the herd close to human habitations has also raised safety concerns among villagers, who remain on alert as the animals continue to roam in the area.
Residents have appealed to the Forest Department to take steps to drive the elephants back into the forest and prevent further crop damage. They have also sought enhanced monitoring and protective measures to safeguard farmlands and nearby villages.
Forest officials are monitoring the situation as the herd continues to move through the area.
