SEC issues notification for polls
Vijayawada: The State Election Commission issued a notification here on Monday for the holding of elections on February 3 to various top posts in seven municipalities/nagar panchayats and three municipal corporations.
The posts to be filled are of chairpersons, vice chairpersons and deputy mayors. A special meeting will be held at 11 am that day across these civic bodies.
The election-bound municipalities/nagar panchayats are Nandigama (NTR) for chairperson, Hindupur (Sri Satya Sai), Palakonda (Parvathipuram Manyam) for chairperson, Buchireddypalem (SPSR Nellore) for the posts of vice-chairpersons, Nuzvid (Eluru) for vice chairperson, Tuni (Kakinada) for vice chairperson and Piduguralla (Palnadu) for vice chairperson.
SEC Nilam Sawhney directed the collectors and district election authorities to authorise a gazetted officer each to conduct the election to fill up these casual vacancies.
Accordingly, a notice is to be given in Form-II on January 30 by the authorised gazetted officer calling for a special meeting for conduct of election.
Similarly, the SEC issued a notification for election to fill up casual vacancies in the office of deputy mayors of municipal corporations of Tirupati, Nellore and Eluru.
Accordingly, the SEC directed the election authority and the municipal administration director to authorise the district collector or joint collector of Tirupati, Nellore and Eluru for conduct of election of deputy mayors to the three municipal corporations.
The district collector or joint collector of Tirupati, Nellore and Eluru will issue a notice in Form-II on January 30 calling a special meeting for election of deputy mayors. For Eluru municipal corporation, the election will be held for both the posts of deputy mayors.
