Police Nab Man For Robbing Elderly Woman Of Gold Necklace: Reports

VISAKHAPATNAM: A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly robbing an 80-year-old woman of her gold necklace in a daytime assault in the Hayathinagar, Balaji Nagar region of Srikakulam town. The stolen gold necklace has been recovered.

The robbery happened on July 9, 2025, when the accused, Jeeru Suresh, also known as Nagesh or Nageswara Rao, allegedly entered the residence of the victim, Podugu Arudramma, requesting water.

As the elderly woman turned around, the suspect attacked her and threatened to kill her. The accused then forcibly took the victim's necklace, which weighed 35.70 grams.

Following a complaint from the victim at One Town Police Station, the police registered a case and later apprehended Suresh at his home on Monday.

District SP K.V. Maheswar Reddy stated that the accused was driven by financial desperation related to his addiction to harmful substances and growing debts.

He further said that the accused has a criminal history and was arrested earlier in May 2025 by Srikakulam Two Town Police for the theft of electrical appliances, including a television, a laptop, gold jewellery, and cash amounting to ₹50,000. He had been released on bail.
