Elderly Woman Dies As Fire Guts Ten Huts In Vizianagaram
The victim, identified as Kosti Papamma, died of severe burn injuries after flames from a brazier she had kept under her bed to ward off the cold set her thatched hut on fire. The blaze spread rapidly to neighbouring grass-and-mud huts.

Visakhapatnam: A tragic fire accident claimed the life of an 80-year-old woman and destroyed ten huts at K. Seethapuram village in Terlam mandal of Vizianagaram district on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Kosti Papamma, died of severe burn injuries after flames from a brazier she had kept under her bed to ward off the cold set her thatched hut on fire. The blaze spread rapidly to neighbouring grass-and-mud huts.
Terlam Sub-Inspector Sagara Babu told this correspondent that Papamma had placed a traditional heater, locally known as kumpati, beneath her bed due to the prevailing cold conditions. “Suddenly, flames erupted from the heater, triggering the fire,” he said. Papamma suffered extensive burns on her back and succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
The fire intensified after a gas cylinder stored in one of the huts exploded. The SI confirmed that no other casualties were reported.
