Nellore:Eicher Motors Limited has received environmental clearance to set up Royal Enfield Unit V at Vanelluru and Rallakuppam villages in Satyavedu mandal of Tirupati district, taking its first facility outside Tamil Nadu closer to construction.

The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority issued the clearance for construction of an industrial shed for manufacturing motorcycles and their parts. The facility will have a built-up area of 1.49 lakh sq. metres and will include manufacturing, wastewater treatment and reuse, rainwater harvesting, greenbelt development, and solid and hazardous waste management facilities.

As part of the clearance conditions, Eicher Motors has to develop a greenbelt over 9.29 hectares, accounting for 25.27 per cent of the total project area. It must also install sewage and effluent treatment facilities and ensure treated wastewater is reused or disposed of as prescribed.

The company has to obtain Consent to Establish from the AP Pollution Control Board and other statutory permissions before commencing construction.

The project has moved through several stages since the government approved a 215.7-acre land parcel in Tirupati district for the greenfield expansion in May. Eicher Motors had announced an investment of up to Rs 2,500 crore for the project, citing long-term growth and near-full utilisation of its existing capacity.

Royal Enfield CEO B. Govindarajan and company representatives met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in May and discussed plans for the manufacturing facility. Naidu assured government support and wanted the project executed at a fast pace, with the facility completed and production beginning within 18 months.

The facility will include an advanced manufacturing unit, testing track, research and development centre and vendor park ecosystem. It is expected to have a production capacity of up to nine lakh motorcycles annually and create nearly 15,000 direct and indirect jobs.

In July, Eicher Motors approved Rs 1,225 crore for Phase I, which will add capacity for up to 4.5 lakh motorcycles annually and is expected to be completed in FY2029-30.
