Education Can Change World: Governor Abdul Nazeer At VSU Convocation

NELLORE: Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer on Tuesday urged students to use education as a tool for social transformation, recalling Nelson Mandela’s famous words that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Addressing the combined 10th, 11th and 12th convocation of Vikrama Simhapuri University at the VPR Convention Centre, the governor who is chancellor of universities congratulated graduates, postgraduates, PhD scholars and gold medalists. He urged them to uphold values such as integrity, compassion, humility and social responsibility throughout their lives.

The governor also congratulated Padma Bhushan awardee and Shantha Biotechnics chairman Dr KI Varaprasad Reddy, NITI Aayog member Prof Gobardhan Das and Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, who were conferred honorary doctorates by the university for their distinguished contributions in their respective fields.

Praising VSU’s progress over the past 17 years, Abdul Nazeer highlighted its recent NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation with a CGPA of 3.23 and commended its achievements in academics, research, NSS activities and community outreach. He noted that grants of ₹20 crore under the PM-USHA scheme and ₹4.12 crore under the Deep Ocean Mission for the marine biology would further strengthen infrastructure, research, digital learning and skill development.

Emphasising the growing role of Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation, the governor called upon higher educational institutions to embrace technology and ensure quality education reaches students in rural and remote areas. He also lauded VSU’s College-to-Village, Lab-to-Land and Go Green initiatives, along with its use of solar energy, smart classrooms and RFID-enabled library services.

Delivering the convocation address, Varaprasad Reddy urged students to become job creators rather than job seekers. Recounting his journey from government service to entrepreneurship, he stressed the importance of innovation, research and self-reliance. He also called for greater focus on sodium-ion battery technology as a sustainable alternative to lithium-ion batteries and suggested that alumni contribute to the development of their alma mater.

Earlier, the governor was welcomed by Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy. A total of 21 scholars received PhD degrees and 45 students were awarded gold medals at the convocation.
