Liquor Scam: ED Takes Former AP Minister Karumuri Into Custody

Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took former Andhra Pradesh minister and YSRCP leader Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao into custody on Monday.
ED officials shifted him from Chanchalguda prison in Hyderabad to the ED office for questioning. According to reports, he is likely to be questioned for two days in connection with the Rs. 195.33-crore liquor transport scam.
The case pertains to Nageswara Rao’s alleged manipulation of tenders awarded for the transportation of liquor for the AP State Beverages Corporation Limited between 2020 and 2024. The ED registered a case following evidence that he had taken a Rs.28‑crore bribe from liquor traders during the YSRC government’s tenure. According to the agency, the then government paid Rs.35 per km for transporting liquor, against the norm of Rs.13. The ED also alleged irregularities in the award of contracts for liquor transport.
