ECRF Dam: Experts Collect Samples of Rock, Soil at Polavaram for Testing and Use

The team members are looking for rock and soil available at the project site to examine their suitability for use in the ECRF dam’s construction

Vijayawada: A team of experts from the New Delhi-based Central Soil and Materials Research Station visited the Polavaram site and collected samples of soil and rock for testing, prior to their use for the irrigation project in Eluru district on Wednesday.

The team-members comprised Siddarth Hedaoo and Vipul Kumar. Water resources authorities say the works of the project, especially construction of the Diaphragm Wall, were being taken up. The preparatory works for construction of the Earth-Cum-Rock-Fill Dam of the project were also on. The project requires nearly 50 lakh cubic meters of rock and 30 lakh cubic meters of soil.

Accordingly, the team members are looking for rock and soil available at the project site to examine their suitability for use in the ECRF dam’s construction. They would visit the project site periodically to collect samples of rock and soil for tests.
