ECI Official Stresses on Transparent, Error-Free Voter List Revision

Officials are told to ensure eligible voter enrolment and prevent duplicate entries.

Tirupati: Election Commission of India (ECI) principal secretary Avinash Kumar on Thursday directed election officials to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) – 2026 of electoral rolls in a transparent, impartial, and accurate manner to ensure that only eligible voters are included in the voter list.

Reviewing the progress of SIR exercise in Tirupati, Chittoor, Annamayya, and Nellore districts at a meeting held in Tirupati, Avinash Kumar stressed on the need for strict adherence to ECI guidelines during voter enumeration and verification. He said booth level officers (BLOs) should carry out door-to-door surveys thoroughly and make sure that every eligible voter is enrolled.

The ECI principal secretary instructed officials to maintain accuracy while verifying voter details and prevent duplicate entries, ineligible registrations, and other discrepancies in the electoral rolls. He stressed the need for independent verification of information received from various sources to maintain the credibility of the revision process.

Making a presentation on SIR – 2026, Election Commission deputy secretary Sanjay Kumar said every application received during the revision exercise should be scrutinised carefully. Field-level verification must be conducted wherever necessary to ensure that electoral rolls remain free from errors, he maintained.

Tirupati district election officer and collector Dr. S. Venkateswar said the objective of the SIR is to prepare transparent and error-free voter lists across AP. He said the BLOs are conducting house-to-house surveys in accordance with the ECI guidelines. He emphasised that the exercise is being monitored continuously by the Chief Electoral Officer.

Dr. Venkateswar said special efforts are being made to complete the revision process in Tirupati, Chittoor, Annamayya, and Nellore districts within the stipulated time frame. The door-to-door survey is expected to be completed by July 14, while the draft electoral rolls will be published on July 21. Claims and objections from voters will be received until August 20 before the final electoral rolls are prepared, he stated.
