ECI Announces Rajya Sabha Bypoll for AP on May 9
The vacancy arose following the resignation of former YSR Congress Party leader Vijaya Sai Reddy.

New Delhi: Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced May 9 as the date for the bypoll for one vacancy caused in Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.
The seat fell vacant after V. Vijaya Sai Reddy belonging to the YSRC Party resigned as member of the Rajya Sabha on January 25, 2025, though the term of the seat is up to June 21, 2028. Accordingly, the ECI has announced a byelection for the seat for the remainder of the term. A notification for conduct of the bypoll will be issued on April 22. The last date for filing of nominations is April 29.Scrutiny of nominations will be on April 30. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is on May 2. Polling will be held on May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Counting of votes will be taken up on the same day at 5:00 p.m.
ECI is expected to appoint an observer for monitoring the election process and ensure that the election is held in a free and fair manner.
