The entity’s director has issued two circulars recently, one for inspections on Dec 19 to 20 and another against misuse of narcotic drugs and psychotic substances from December 23 to 24.
Teams of officials would inspect the stockists mainly in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam etc and collect data on distribution of abortifacients and narcotic drugs to the wholesalers, retailers. They would also find out destinations of any dispatch of major stocks of such drugs in the urban, semi-urban, rural and agency areas in the state.
Based on this data, drugs inspectors would zero in on illegal stocking and sale. They would inspect medical shops too to find out any sales of such drugs in large quantities, the persons involved in placing the order, and the likely involvement of some medical representatives and quacks.
The team would also ascertain whether the sales in medical shops were based on prescriptions issued by licensed medical practitioners.
Officials said cases would be booked against those who violated laws, and the licences of the offenders would be suspended or cancelled.
The department’s assistant directors are instructed to compile data of inspections in their respective areas and submit an action- taken-report to the head office within a stipulated period.
