DPR Work Begins For Tada–Nellore Six-laning

Nellore: A long-pending demand of commuters and industry stakeholders has moved a step closer to reality, with work set to begin on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for widening the Tada–Nellore stretch of National Highway-16 and the Nellore Bypass from four lanes to six lanes.
Chairing a stakeholders' meeting at Tikkana Pranganam Hall in the Collectorate on Saturday, district collector Himanshu Shukla said consultancy services for preparing the DPR had been entrusted to Sheladia Associates, marking a key milestone in the proposed highway expansion project.
National Highways Authority officials, including project director Ramesh Ganapati and senior highway design engineer Y. Murali, attended the meeting along with public representatives and district officials.
The collector said the project aims to increase the carrying capacity of the busy Chennai–Kolkata corridor, ease traffic congestion and provide safer and faster travel. He directed officials to examine the need for truck lay-bys at strategic locations and address stakeholder concerns, including increasing clearance under flyovers wherever necessary.
The DPR will assess traffic volumes, land acquisition requirements, environmental impact, highway and bridge design, and project costs.
Once completed, the six-laning project is expected to improve connectivity between Chennai and Nellore while supporting industrial growth, trade, logistics and economic activity across the region.
The proposal assumes significance as the Nellore–Tada section remains one of the few bottlenecks on NH-16, while much of the highway beyond Tada towards Visakhapatnam has already been widened to six lanes.
Officials expressed confidence that the project would strengthen Andhra Pradesh's highway infrastructure and support future economic growth.
