DPR to Be Prepared For Uppalaguptam Coir Units

KAKINADA: A detailed project report (DPR) would be prepared for establishing agriculture and coconut-based processing units in five acres of land in Uppalaguptam in the Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district at a cost of `13.50 crore.
Announcing this on Thursday, district collector Mahesh Kumar said experts would be involved in the project.
The collector held a meeting at Amalapuram with a team of the Kerala coir board, in which the central coir research centre’s senior scientists Girish Kumar, Sumi Sebastian, Vivek Prasad Sha, coir board members CK Jayanand, regional coir officer Pawan Kumar, APIIC district zonal manager Radhamani, estate manager Padmaja Devi and others decided to prepare the DPR.
This project would cover all components in the newly establishing coir cluster at Uppalaguptam with a common facility centre, a flatted factory complex, an incubation centre and facilities for manufacture of coir yarn, mats, cocopeat, geo textile, wood and other products.
The experts would prepare DPRs for sophisticated equipment, quality improved methods in coir products, brown fibre, a system for converting brown fibre into white fibre, incubation support to start-ups, marketing and export brand encouragement.
The collector said that the establishment of the centre was aimed at providing coir-based products to entrepreneurs.
He said the centre should serve as a guide for labourers to establish units through the common facility centre. The geo textile production unit, the dyeing and finishing units, the testing lab, the quality control department, and the packaging and storage facilities should attempt cost reduction through the use of collective resources.
The Kadiyapulanka coir cluster chairman Nanduri Phani Kumar, coir industry chairman Ambati Koteswara Rao, district horticulture officer BVRamana and others were present.
