Dola launches work for girls' hostel complex in Ongole

Kurnool: Social welfare minister Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy laid the foundation for a new girls' hostel complex in Ongole city on Wednesday. The hostel will be built with a fund of Rs 6.15 crore.

The minister said, “The government is constructing hostels for students in Ongole at a total cost of Rs 30 crore. This apart, renovations to existing hostels would cost Rs 143 crore. Steps are being taken to secure land in Turpu Palem near the school for construction of a boys' hostel."
Swamy stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and cleanliness in the hostels. Blankets have been provided to hostel inmates and the pending mess bills have been cleared.
MP, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy,said the government is placing major emphasis on welfare programmes, including the construction of new hostels across the state.
MLA, Damacharla Janardhan Rao, said the new girls' hostels would accommodate 600 students. The work would be completed within a year. District collector Thameem Ansaria, Ongole mayor Gangada Sujatha, and other leaders also attended the event.
In addition, Swamy inaugurated a walkathon organised by the transport department with the participation of college students in Ongole town as part of Road Safety Month celebrations. The walkathon, which began at the flyover junction on Kurnool Road, wended its way through the old city to the Church Centre.
The minister called for adherence to road safety rules. He said the government has repaired potholes that posed safety hazards. Collector Ansaria, SP Damodar, deputy transport commissioner Susheela, municipal commissioner Venkateswara Rao and other public representatives participated in the walkathon.
