Direct flight takes off: Vijayawada to Mumbai now connected daily
Vijayawada: Air India's inaugural flight from Vijayawada to Mumbai soared into the sky on Saturday evening, fulfilling a long-desired connection for air travelers. The 7:10 pm departure carried 136 passengers eager to reach the financial capital.
Vallabhaneni Balashouri, MP for Machilipatnam and chairman of the Gannavaram Airport Advisory Committee, along with Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, officiated at the inauguration. They personally handed boarding passes to passengers on flight AI-599, which boasts a seating capacity of 180.
Earlier that day, an Air India flight arriving from Mumbai with 152 passengers received a celebratory water cannon salute on the runway by airport staff.
MP Balashouri hailed the new service as a boon for air travelers and business people, offering a swift two-hour connection to Mumbai.
MP Sivanath hinted at exciting developments for Vijayawada’s air connectivity. He mentioned the launch of additional domestic flights and even international services in the near future. He also highlighted the nearing completion of the new terminal building within eight months, with plans for a progress review in the coming days.
