VISAKHAPATNAM: Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated the new Coastal Security Police building in Visakhapatnam.
The state-of-the-art facility has been designed to function as a nerve centre for coastal monitoring, intelligence gathering and rapid response operations along the state’s coastline.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Inspector General of Police Gopinath Jatti, Coastal Security Police, and other senior police officials.
Later, the DGP reviewed the functioning of the Coastal Security Police, including preventive measures at beaches, beach patrolling, lifesaving operations, community outreach programmes, village vigilance committees and the functioning of the Special Intelligence Unit in coastal security.
He also reviewed the availability of equipment and vehicles in the coastal security wing.
The DGP stressed the need for strengthening the force by improving infrastructure and inducting three APSP platoons.
He also suggested organising awareness programmes on environmental conservation, particularly protection of Olive Ridley turtles, drug abuse awareness, night patrols, flag hoisting on islands and promotion of Naval NCC activities.
Gupta appreciated the initiatives taken by the Coastal Security Police and assured full support in providing infrastructure and other requirements to further strengthen coastal security operations.
