Kurnool: Laksha Deepotsavam was held at the Srisailam temple town on Monday, resonating with chants of “Om Namah Sivaya.” The temple authorities organised the grand event at Swamy Pushkarini, making meticulous arrangements to ensure its smooth conduct. Thousands of devotees participated in the celebrations, marking the first Karthika Somavaram, considered highly auspicious in the holy month of Karthika.
The temple town witnessed a huge turnout of devotees taking part in various sacred rituals. Pilgrims took holy dips in Pathala Ganga and floated thousands of oil lamps on the Krishna River during the Maha Mangala Harathi to Goddess Krishnaveni. Around one lakh Deepams illuminated the Pushkarini waters, creating a spectacular and divine sight.
Despite the massive rush, temple officials ensured smooth darshan arrangements. Regular darshan took nearly six to seven hours, while special darshan lasted four to five hours. Srisailam Temple Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao supervised the arrangements, while Nandyal SP Suneel Sheoran deployed additional police personnel to maintain security and prevent any untoward incidents. To manage the heavy influx of pilgrims, temple doors were opened as early as 3 a.m., and darshanam continued till late night in two sessions.
In Kurnool and Nandyal districts, large numbers of devotees also thronged prominent Lord Siva temples to mark Karthika Somavaram. Temples such as Omkaram, Mahanandi, Yaganti, Kalvabugga, and Jagannathagattu were packed with worshippers offering prayers and lighting Karthika Deepams.
Due to the heavy pilgrim inflow during peak days — Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, Ekadashi, and Karthika Pournami — temple officials have temporarily suspended Sparsha Darshanam and Garbhalaya Abhishekam to ensure smooth crowd management.
