Decapitated Ramateertham Idols Immersed in Godavari
Public representatives from the district participated in the ceremonial send-off of the idols from Ramateertham to the village boundary
VISAKHAPATNAM: The decapitated idol of Lord Rama, along with the idols of Sita and Laxman from the Ramateertham temple in Nellimarla mandal of Vizianagaram district, were immersed in the Godavari at Kotipalli in Dr B.R. Ambedkar district on Monday.
Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas, MLAs Adithi Gajapathi Raju, Lokam Madhavi and Nadikudi Eswara Rao participated in rituals held at Bodi Konda near the temple in the early hours. Similar pujas were performed at the Godavari banks as per Vaikhanasa Agama Shastra prior to immersion.
The idols had been consecrated at the temple on April 25, 2022.
Addressing the gathering, Kondapalli Srinivas referred to the earlier vandalism of the idol at the temple and criticised the previous YSRC government over the incident. He alleged that several temples and temple-related persons were targeted during the previous regime.
He said the present government had taken steps to address the issue in accordance with Agama Shastra.
The idols were taken in a procession covering temples at Ramateertham, Vizianagaram Pydithalli Ammavaru, Simhachalam, Annavaram and Anakapalli before immersion.
