Debt-Ridden Trader Dies by Suicide, Wife Critical
The couple allegedly took the extreme step after facing debts of nearly ₹1 crore.
Kadapa: A debt-ridden couple in Nandyal district’s Dhone constituency attempted suicide, resulting in the death of the husband while the wife is battling for life in hospital.
According to police, B. Srinivasulu and his wife Padmavathi, residents of Rythu Mitra Colony, were running a small business dealing in ghee and turmeric. The couple allegedly took the extreme step after facing debts of nearly ₹1 crore.
Family members shifted them to a private hospital in Kurnool, where Srinivasulu died while undergoing treatment. Padmavathi is battling for life.
Police said the couple left behind a note citing financial distress and appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to support their family and provide a job to their son.
A case was registered and an investigation was under way. Hospital authorities said Padmavathi was receiving advanced medical treatment.
