DC IMPACT | Swachh Andhra Chairman To Inspect Anantapur Dump Yard Following DC Report

The visit comes after Deccan Chronicle highlighted the dumping of biomedical waste from the Government General Hospital (GGH) and private hospitals at the municipal dump yard: Deccan Chronicle Reports

ANANTAPUR: Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman K. Pattabhi Ram is scheduled to visit Anantapur on Tuesday to inspect the Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) dump yard following allegations of biomedical waste being dumped along with municipal solid waste.

The visit comes after Deccan Chronicle highlighted the dumping of biomedical waste from the Government General Hospital (GGH) and private hospitals at the municipal dump yard, where cattle were reportedly feeding on the waste, raising environmental and public health concerns.

Sources said Pattabhi will inspect the dump yard and review the handling of biomedical waste. He is also expected to hold meetings with officials of the Government General Hospital and the Anantapur Municipal Corporation.

The inspection will also focus on allegations that the Pollution Control Board (PCB) failed to take adequate action against the improper disposal of biomedical waste.

It may be recalled that an official of the Pollution Control Board, who had earlier served in Anantapur, was recently arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in a disproportionate assets case.

Sources said Pattabhi had previously expressed dissatisfaction over sanitation management during his earlier visit to Anantapur and took serious note of the biomedical waste issue after the Deccan Chronicle report. He is expected to review the corrective measures initiated by the civic and health authorities.
