TIRUPATI: A state-level dam safety committee inspected the Gogarbham and Papavinasanam reservoirs in Tirumala on Sunday as part of an assessment of the condition and safety of specified dams across the state.

Committee chairman Trimbak Desai, along with members Gopal Reddy and Srikanth and irrigation officials, inspected the dam structures, spillways and related infrastructure at the reservoirs.

The inspection follows implementation of the Dam Safety Act, 2021. Around 150 specified dams have been identified in the state for safety assessment.

The committee is examining the technical aspects, including civil engineering, hydromechanical systems, hydrology, hydraulics, geology, geotechnical conditions and instrumentation. The team is also assessing the condition of the structures and identifying deficiencies that may require repairs or other corrective measures.

The members said the findings will be compiled into a detailed report and submitted to the National Dam Safety Authority and the state government. Further action on repairs and other measures will be taken based on the recommendations.
