Cyclonic system over Bay of Bengal to bring heavy rain to Andhra Pradesh: IMD

Amaravati: District authorities in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema are bracing for heavy rainfall with the low-pressure system over southwest Bay of Bengal intensifying.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says the weather system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas across north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Heavy rain is anticipated in south coastal AP and Rayalaseema on Thursday.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area will move northwest towards north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday. It will then shift northward along the Andhra Pradesh coast on Friday.
The Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam has indicated that Kakinada, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts are likely to experience moderate to heavy rains over the next few days. Some areas may see heavy to very heavy rainfall during the period.
On Wednesday, Denkada received 26.4 mm of rain, followed by Vizianagaram 17.2 mm and Narsapuram 15 mm.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Thursday due to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, and Kakinada districts. A yellow alert has been sounded for Friday and Saturday in Srikakulam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districts.
Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea, as squally weather with wind speeds of 35 km/h to 45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h, are expected along the south Andhra Pradesh coast from Thursday to December 22.
