Cyclone Triggers Heavy Rains in AP, Naidu Reviews Situation
Authorities warned of sudden flooding in streams and rivulets in north coastal and Godavari catchment areas.
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday reviewed the situation arising from the severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, which has triggered heavy rains in several districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu held a high-level meeting with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, senior officials of various departments and ministers to assess the situation.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the cyclone was likely to cross the coast between Srikakulam and Kaviti on Wednesday afternoon, with wind speeds of up to 85 kmph at landfall.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rains were expected in Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Polavaram and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts.
Moderate to very heavy rainfall was also likely in parts of West Godavari, East Godavari, Konaseema, Kakinada, Eluru, Krishna and NTR districts. Officials cautioned that rainfall could continue on September 24 and 25.
Of the 261 mandals, 129 were expected to receive heavy rainfall, 121 normal rainfall, nine very heavy rainfall and two extremely heavy rainfall.

Naidu directed district collectors and officials to remain vigilant and ensure public safety.
He instructed officials to alert people in vulnerable areas about possible flash floods and heavy rains.
He also directed officials to continuously monitor river flows and take necessary measures to regulate water storage in reservoirs to prevent emergencies.
