CUAP Holds Workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment
Awareness workshop on PoSH Act held at CUAP

Anantapur: The Women’s Cell and Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) organised a one-day awareness workshop on the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace at ‘Jnana Seema’ in Janthuluru, Anantapur, on Saturday.
Titled “Creating Safe and Inclusive Campuses: Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace”, the programme aimed to promote gender sensitivity, enhance awareness of legal provisions under UGC regulations and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act, 2013, and foster a safe, respectful and inclusive academic environment.
Parikipandla Sridevi, associate professor at the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh, spoke on understanding UGC regulations and the PoSH Act in the context of academic institutions. Dr Hema Prakash Kumari, senior consultant in microbiology and chairperson of the ICC at Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, delivered a session on the definition of sexual harassment, addressing common perceptions and campus realities under the PoSH Act.
The workshop began with an address by Dr Akriti Srivastava, associate professor, department of psychology, and presiding officer of the ICC, CUAP. Prof. C. Sheela Reddy, dean and chairperson of the Women’s Cell, highlighted the role of the ICC and the Women’s Cell and stressed the importance of regular awareness programmes on preventing sexual harassment at the workplace.
Faculty members, research scholars and students participated in the workshop, reaffirming CUAP’s commitment to building a safe and equitable campus environment.
