CS Plans Insurance for All in AP by 2047

The CS directed Finance department to issue instructions to departmental secretaries and district collectors to run large-scale public awareness drives for popularising insurance among people.

Vijayawada: Chief secretary (CS) K. Vijayanand on Wednesday said efforts are being intensified to provide insurance coverage to every citizen in Andhra Pradesh by 2047, in line with the national vision of “Insurance for All”.

Chairing a meeting of the State Level Insurance Committee (SLIC) at the Secretariat, he pointed out that the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is working with the state government and insurers to expand coverage, particularly in remote areas, to ensure insurance coverage for the common people. The committee discussed strategies to improve insurance penetration. It recommended sector-specific sub-committees for life, crop, motor and health insurance. Vijayanand asked departments, such as SERP, MEPMA, Labour, Transport and MSME, to educate beneficiaries under their purview about the advantages of insuring themselves and their crops.

The CS directed Finance department to issue instructions to departmental secretaries and district collectors to run large-scale public awareness drives for popularising insurance among people. In the first phase, lead insurance companies have adopted about 5,000 gram panchayats to promote awareness about insurance.
