CRRI Recommends High-Capacity Road Design for Amaravati

For major trunk roads, the experts have suggested a significantly higher standard of 100 MSA to ensure durability and accommodate future traffic growth in the capital city.

Vijayawada: Based on its assessment of infrastructure works in Amaravati, the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) has recommended that roads in the capital area be designed to withstand a cumulative traffic load of 5 Million Standard Axles (MSA), a key benchmark in civil and highway engineering that measures a road's capacity to endure traffic stress over its designed life.

For major trunk roads, the experts have suggested a significantly higher standard of 100 MSA to ensure durability and accommodate future traffic growth in the capital city.

The recommendations came after a two-day study conducted by a CRRI team on roads and allied infrastructure being developed by the Andhra Pradesh government in Amaravati. The experts inspected internal roads, stormwater drainage systems, sewerage networks, and power line works in LPS zones being developed for capital-region farmers.

As part of the field visit, the team examined infrastructure projects in Land Pooling Scheme zones 2, 5, 9, 10, 12, and 12A. Experts reviewed the construction designs and development plans prepared by the Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC).

After completing the inspection, the CRRI delegation met ADC chairperson and managing director D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy on Tuesday and submitted its findings to her. The team made a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining key observations and technical recommendations arising from the study of Amaravati's ongoing infrastructure projects.

Those who attended the meeting include CRRI director Dr. Ch. Ravisekhar, chief scientist Dr. K. Ravinder, principal scientist (Flexible Pavement) Dr. Bharat, chief scientist (Geotechnics) Dr. P.S. Prasad, senior principal scientist S.H. Dinesh Ganvir, ADC chief engineers Ch. Dhanunjaya and B. Narasimha Murthy, superintending engineer R. Hanumantha Reddy, and IPD HOD Dr. K.V. Ganesh Babu.
