ANANTAPUR: In a blend of tradition and technology, a Telugu duo from Rayalaseema settled in the USA solemnised their engagement online, with the relevant Vedic rituals performed in Kurnool on Friday. The man and the woman exchanged rings in the United States, as they could not be in India over Visa-related issues.

Meghana is the daughter of Kurnool Government General Hospital Health inspector Govindu Swamy. Meghana and Prem Kumar of Tirupati, both working in the US, had fallen in love. Their parents too consented with their formal engagement planned in Kurnool. However, the duo could not get the Visa immediately.

The two families then formalised the engagement through a live video link. The families organised the engagement ceremony at a hotel on the outskirts of Kurnool. At the scheduled auspicious muhurtham, the couple appeared on a large LED screen from the US, where it had been past midnight.

As a priest in Kurnool chanted Vedic mantras, Meghana and Prem Kumar exchanged their rings in America. Simultaneously, their parents exchanged traditional nischaya tamboolam at the function hall in Kurnool, completing the customary engagement rituals by using online services.

Meghana is a scientist in the United States, while Prem Kumar works as a software engineer. The families have planned to conduct the wedding in New York on August 30, with parents from both sides travelling to the US to attend the ceremony.
