Couple Held for Stealing Ornaments Worth ₹26.5 Lakh in Ongole
According to police, the couple had been staying in a ground-floor portion of the house belonging to the victim, Velayudam Ramanamma, for about two months.

Nellore: Prakasam district police arrested a couple for allegedly stealing gold and silver ornaments from the house of a woman in the Devudu Cheruvu area after luring her downstairs on the pretext of offering temple prasadam and tea.
The accused were identified as Bandaru Venkata Narayana Vara Prasad, 27, and his wife, Upputholla Mahalakshmi, 23, both residents of Ongole. Police recovered around 175 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹24.5 lakh and 850 grams of silver articles valued at ₹2 lakh. The total value of the recovered property was estimated at ₹26.5 lakh.
According to police, the couple had been staying in a ground-floor portion of the house belonging to the victim, Velayudam Ramanamma, for about two months. Facing financial difficulties, they allegedly invited her downstairs, saying they would offer her prasadam. While Ramanamma was eating it, Mahalakshmi allegedly entered the bedroom on the pretext of buying tea powder, opened the almirah and stole the jewellery.
The couple reportedly fled to Hyderabad the following day and returned to Ongole on Tuesday. Acting on technical evidence and CCTV footage, police intercepted them near the Koppolu flyover and recovered the stolen property.
