Cops Ban Night Travel for Heavy Vehicles on ASR Ghat Road

SP Amit Bardar said all types of both heavy goods and passenger vehicles are prohibited from traveling on all ghat roads in the district from 10pm to 5am.

Visakhapatnam: The ASR district police have banned movement of heavy vehicles on the ghat roads during night time so as to ensure passenger safety.

SP Amit Bardar said all types of both heavy goods and passenger vehicles are prohibited from traveling on all ghat roads in the district from 10pm to 5am.

The dense fog conditions reduce visibility leading to risky travel conditions on these roads during winter season. Drivers are facing significant challenges, navigating through the fog and mist that blanket their windshields.

A second mishap occurred on the ghat roads on Friday due to foggy conditions while, two days ago, a student from Visakhapatnam was killed when his car rammed a bridge due to poor visibility.

Police made it clear that heavy vehicles violating the ban would face legal action. The police also urge drivers of other vehicles to drive with extreme caution during the winter season, reduce speed and use necessary lights.

The restriction would continue until the fog conditions improve. Passengers requiring more details may contact the relevant police stations. The district police request all passengers to adhere to this safety measure and adjust their travel plans accordingly.

The district administration is also keen on strengthening the retaining walls and improving the road conditions.

District collector Dinesh Kumar proposed Gabion structures, which are modular retaining systems made from mesh cages used for strong retaining walls.
