Kakinada: Copper wire theft from air conditioners at the Government General Hospital in Kakinada has become frequent, with the result that medical services, particularly during surgeries, are affected.
Doctors said the situation is posing serious problems. They are bearing with the lack of proper cooling in operation theatres, ICUs, lecture halls and galleries.
They noted that, during the surgeries, the temperature should be maintained at 20 to 23 degrees. Else, it will harm the patient and trouble surgeons in the operation theatres.
With copper wires in the ACs being stolen on a regular basis, the machines are becoming non-functional. In the operation theatres, ACs are required to keep patients and doctors in a comfortable condition.
Some doctors arranged air conditioners for state-run hospitals from donors as the government rarely provides this there.
The stealing of copper wires from the boards occurred in the lecture gallery, VRDL, SPM gallery and other units. A few years back, such incidents occurred in the laboratories.
The thieves tied masks or kerchiefs to their mouths and escaped identification via the CCTV cameras. In some cameras, they are visible.
Allegations are that the agency staff and the thieves have colluded in this matter.
Two days back, the hospital staff lodged a complaint with One Town Police about the theft of copper wire from the AC units. Cops promised an inquiry.
