Congress Failed To Win People’s Trust In GP Polls: KTR
Rama Rao alleged that Congress members were resorting to attacks on BRS leaders in villages out of fear of defeat in the gram panchayat elections: Reports

NALGONDA: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday said the Congress failed to win people’s confidence in the first phase of the gram panchayat elections, as BRS-backed candidates won around 50 per cent of the sarpanch and ward member posts.
He said people had lost faith in the Congress government due to its failure to fulfil poll promises.
Along with party leaders, Rama Rao visited Lingampally village in Suryapet district and consoled the family members of BRS leader Uppala Mallaiah, who died following an alleged attack by Congress members. He also handed over a cheque for ₹5 lakh to the family as financial assistance from the party.
Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao alleged that Congress members were resorting to attacks on BRS leaders in villages out of fear of defeat in the gram panchayat elections. He said the people would have fully supported the Congress if the government had implemented its six guarantees during its two years in power.
Despite alleged attacks, he said, BRS-backed candidates secured around 50 per cent of the sarpanch and ward member posts in the first phase. He questioned why the Congress government was facing public opposition if its claims on crop loan waiver, Indiramma houses and issuance of new ration cards had truly benefited the poor.
Stating that the BRS never encouraged political clashes during its 10-year rule, Rama Rao criticised the Congress for allegedly attacking opposition leaders to destabilise them. He urged BRS workers to exercise restraint and help maintain peace in the state, while cautioning that there was a limit to the patience of the party cadre.
He advised the Congress to focus on the state’s development instead of indulging in what he termed “cheap politics” and warned that the BRS would respond if attacks continued.
Rama Rao assured that a government job would be provided to a member of Mallaiah’s family after the BRS returns to power. He said the people of the state were eager to see BRS president Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao return as Chief Minister.
Former minister and Suryapet mla G. Jagadish Reddy, former mlas Gadari Kishore, Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, Bollam Mallaiah Yadav, Kancherla Bhupal Reddy and Bududa Bixamaiah Goud were present.
