Community Fridges Inaugurated Across Visakhapatnam

The initiative aims to create a food-sharing system accessible to the public round the clock

VISAKHAPATNAM: Five 24/7 community fridges were inaugurated across Visakhapatnam on Saturday as part of Mission Jyothirgamaya, providing a platform to reduce food wastage and make surplus food available to people in need. Member of Parliament M. Sribharat inaugurated the initiative on Independence Day.

The fridges have been installed at Jagadamba Junction, Maddilapalem Junction, RTC Complex, Gopalapatnam Petrol Bunk Junction and Old Gajuwaka Junction. The initiative aims to create a food-sharing system accessible to the public round the clock.

A private beverage company sponsored the refrigerators at all five locations. Kiosks were provided by various entities, including a private hospital at Jagadamba, an advertising agency at Maddilapalem and jewellers at the RTC Complex, Gopalapatnam and Old Gajuwaka. Private individuals also contributed to the initiative.

Local organisations and businesses will support the daily supply of food to help sustain the programme.

The Visakhapatnam City Police described the initiative as a step towards promoting social responsibility and community welfare. It seeks to encourage citizens and businesses to donate surplus food while helping address hunger in the city.
