Scholars honour the historian's enduring contributions to history, culture and public thought.

Anantapur: Calicut mayor O. Sadasivan released a commemorative volume titled “M.G.S. Smruti: History, Art, Culture and People” on Wednesday at the Malabar Christian College at Kozhikode in memory of historian Prof. M.G.S. Narayanan, former chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).

The first copy of the volume has been presented to Premalatha Narayanan, wife of the late Prof. M.G.S. Narayanan.

Prof. Pedarapu Chennareddy, former director of the Andhra Pradesh Department of Archaeology and Museums, is the co-editor of the volume. Chennareddy said the publication pays tribute to Prof. Narayanan’s contributions to historiography, cultural studies, social thought, and public intellectual discourse.

The other editor of the commemorative volume is historian Prof. K.K.N. Kurup, former vice-chancellor of the University of Calicut.

The book brings together research papers, memoirs, analytical essays, and personal reflections on themes including history, art, culture, society, public life, and India’s heritage. Scholars, teachers, students, writers, cultural activists, and admirers of Prof. Narayanan’s intellectual legacy have contributed to compilation of the volume.

Speakers at the event said the commemorative volume is not merely a tribute to an individual scholar but an intellectual monument dedicated to history, culture, knowledge, and public consciousness. They expressed hope that it would help preserve Prof. Narayanan’s scholarly legacy and inspire future generations of researchers and students.
